why do I need a travel advisor?
You can book a trip yourself. Between the booking engines and a few hundred blog posts, everything you need is already out there.
But you don't need a CPA to file your taxes either, or a lawyer to read a contract. You could learn the tax code. You hire someone because your time is worth more than the hours it would cost you, and because an expert catches what you would miss.
Travel works the same way. You can spend three weekends with forty browser tabs open, reading contradictory reviews and playing logistical Tetris with flight times. That doesn't mean you should.
Then there's the part nobody plans for. A flight cancels. A room isn't what was promised. Booked on your own, you're on hold with a call center at 2am, telling your whole trip to a stranger while your vacation burns.

What's Included
- Flights in any cabin: expert routing assistance and booking logistics for commercial flights, from economy to premium and business class. Cash-fare tickets carry a $50 per person ticketing fee, which includes a 24/7 support line you call directly and any changes I handle on your behalf. I don't keep this fee; it goes to the Fora flight desk, which issues and services your ticket. More on how this works in why book your international flights with a travel advisor.
- Private aviation and yachts: chartering for private jets, helicopters, and luxury yacht excursions. A $250 sourcing fee applies per request. Quotes within 5 to 7 business days.
- Group trips and wedding blocks: coordinating hotel room blocks and group travel dynamics for stress-free gatherings. Starting at $500, which includes sourcing and comparing up to 3 hotels, negotiating group rates and reviewing the contract, a booking link for your guests, handling their booking questions, and tracking room pickup through the final rooming list. You'll also get your own private planner to keep everything in one place. For weddings, that means your budget, payments, checklist, RSVPs and room block, plus a travel page for your guests and help booking their flights and airport transfers. For retreats, reunions and other group events, I'll customize it around what you're planning, including a budget view for the organizer that shows the full picture even when everyone pays on their own. Room blocks at all-inclusive resorts are complimentary when booked with me. Options within 7 to 10 business days. Watch the walkthrough.
- Points redemption optimization: I find award availability and the best way to use your credit card points and airline miles, including which transfer partners to use for premium cabin redemptions. Award searches are $150 per person for round trips within North America and the Caribbean, and $200 per person for international, business or first class, or multi-city trips. Each search compares up to 3 locations. You book the award in your own loyalty account, so there's no $50 ticketing fee on top. Results within 3 to 5 business days.

Turnaround Times
Every timeline is counted in business days (Tuesday through Saturday) and starts once your agreement is signed, your card is on file, your fee is paid, and your form is complete.

Need it sooner? Rush service gets you a proposal within 3 business days for an additional 50% of the planning fee ($100 minimum), when my schedule allows. Trips departing within 30 days are considered rush requests, and points searches within 14 days of departure. Rush covers my turnaround, not how quickly hotels and suppliers respond. VIP Desk hotel bookings are always complimentary, with no rush fee.

Frequently Asked
Does booking through you cost more than booking the hotel myself?
No. You pay the same rate you would find on your own, and sometimes better. My partner hotels pay my commission, which is why JB's VIP Desk is complimentary. The perks that come with it, breakfast, upgrades and credits, are added on top at no charge to you.
When would I pay a planning fee?
At step two, when you sign the planning agreement. Nothing is charged before that, and the number is quoted to you first. Hotel-only bookings and cruises carry no planning fee at all.
What happens if something goes wrong while I am travelling?
I'm your point of contact for the whole trip, available during business hours to help with changes, delays or anything that doesn't go to plan. Your itinerary includes direct contacts for every hotel and supplier, and flights booked through me come with a 24/7 support line. If you'd like round-the-clock help on the ground, I can build your trip with a trusted local partner who's available 24/7 in destination. It adds to the cost, but for complex or remote trips it's often worth it, and I'll always let you know when I think it makes sense.
Do you book flights?
Yes, in any cabin, and I can also search for award seats using your own points. The ticketing and points search fees are listed under Curated Services above.
Do you book cruises and all-inclusives?
Yes, at no fee, if you already know the cruise or all-inclusive resort you want. I book it through my VIP Desk, including group sailings. If you'd like me to work out where to go, that's design work and falls under JB's Signature Journey.
Common questions
Can you help with a flight I booked myself?
Since the airline holds that reservation, they're the only ones who can see it or make changes, so they're your fastest help for baggage, seats, check-in, and schedule changes. When you book flights with me through the Fora flight desk, you get a 24/7 support line for exactly these moments.
What are your hours?
I'm available Tuesday through Saturday, 10 am to 6 pm Central, and I reply to every message within 1 to 2 business days. Before you travel, you'll get every emergency contact you need for your trip.
Why do you charge a planning fee?
Most of my income comes from supplier commissions, which usually arrive after you've traveled, and only if the trip happens. Commissions also don't reflect the hours that go into a trip. A multi-country itinerary or a trip with lots of moving pieces can take dozens of hours, while the commission stays the same. The planning fee pays for the research and design work I do now, regardless of how the trip turns out. It's separate from your travel costs and isn't credited toward them.
