The Caribbean, Island by Island

Seven islands. Four travel personalities. One guide to help you decide where to go.

Honeymoon & Anniversary St. Lucia · Turks & Caicos · Antigua Anguilla · St. Barths · St. Vincent · Curaçao

The Caribbean covers a lot of ground, and the islands are not interchangeable. The couple who wants to disappear into the jungle with a plunge pool and room service is going to have a very different trip than the one who wants a blinding-white beach and not a single decision to make all week. Both are correct. But they're not the same island.

These are the seven islands I recommend most often for couples: honeymoons, anniversaries, milestone trips. Each one has its own character. Use the filter below to narrow by what you actually care about, or scroll through all seven and let the one that fits you surface on its own.

St. Lucia · Caribbean

Seclusion & Romance Adventure & Activity

St. Lucia

Where the jungle meets the sea

The Pitons rising straight from the Caribbean Sea on the southwest coast is one of those views that stops you mid-sentence. Sulphur springs in the rainforest, steep jungle hikes, and villas carved into the hillside with plunge pools that seem to float over the water below. St. Lucia rewards couples who want the feeling of having genuinely disappeared. Dense, lush, and dramatic in a way the flat-water islands aren't.

Honeymoon fit

Villas at Sugar Beach and Jade Mountain orient every room toward the Pitons. You don't need to go anywhere. Add a rainforest waterfall hike, a sunset catamaran, and a couples treatment at the spa and you have three days that feel like a week. It's the most visually dramatic of the Caribbean honeymoon islands. Every window is a photograph.

Best time Dec – Apr · Shoulder: May–Jun
Starting from from ~$900/night
Pace Active or fully secluded

Properties I recommend

Sugar Beach Jade Mountain Anse Chastanet Cap Maison
JB's take

"I've planned several St. Lucia honeymoons and it's consistently the one couples say reset them completely. The drama of the landscape does something to people."

Turks & Caicos · Caribbean

Beach & Water Seclusion & Romance

Turks & Caicos

The clearest water in the Atlantic

Grace Bay is consistently ranked among the top beaches in the world, and the first time you walk in you understand why. The water is an almost unnatural shade of turquoise and it stays that color for a quarter mile out. Providenciales is low-rise, well-maintained, and genuinely relaxed. No traffic, no hustle. You fly in, check in, and don't need a plan for the rest of the week.

Honeymoon fit

Ideal for couples who want maximum decompression with zero planning. COMO Parrot Cay sits on its own private island if you want deeper seclusion: a 35-minute boat transfer and no cars. The diving on the wall is among the best in the Atlantic if you want something to do. T&C never demands anything of you, which is the whole point.

Best time Nov – May
Starting from from ~$900/night
Pace Fully beach-forward

Properties I recommend

COMO Parrot Cay The Shore Club Grace Bay Club Rock House
JB's take

"I've been there and the water genuinely doesn't look real. Take a photograph and people think you've edited the color."

Antigua · Caribbean

Beach & Water Seclusion & Romance

Antigua

365 beaches and a sailing culture that goes back centuries

Antigua has 365 beaches, roughly one per day of the year. That's local lore, but it's not far off. The south shore around Carlisle Bay is quieter and greener; the northwest has the sailing community and English Harbour's restored historic dockyard, one of the few places in the Caribbean with genuine architectural history. It's a more textured island than T&C, with sailing culture layered underneath the beach life.

Honeymoon fit

Best for couples who want beach as the base but appreciate having options: a sailing charter, a walk around the dockyard, a dinner in St. John's. Carlisle Bay hotel is where I send honeymoon couples: discreet, water-sports-forward, and surrounded by one of the island's most beautiful beaches. It doesn't shout at you.

Best time Dec – Apr
Starting from from ~$550/night
Pace Beach with cultural texture

Properties I recommend

Carlisle Bay Blue Waters Jumby Bay Island Hammock Cove
JB's take

"Antigua tends to surprise people. They come for the beach and leave talking about the sailing culture and the food in English Harbour. It has more going on than the brochure suggests."

Anguilla · Caribbean

Beach & Water Seclusion & Romance Culture & Food

Anguilla

Flat island, extraordinary beaches, and the best food scene in the region

Anguilla is a flat island with almost no visual drama, and yet it has some of the finest beaches in the entire Caribbean. Shoal Bay East is the one that gets talked about most and it earns it. The sand is fine, white, and deep, the water shallow and clear. The food scene here punches well above the island's size. It's also one of the least crowded of the high-end islands, which makes it feel like an open secret among people who've been around.

Honeymoon fit

Couples who want long lunches, good wine, and empty beaches will be very happy here. Four Seasons and Aurora Anguilla Resort are the natural choices. Anguilla pairs well with St. Barths on a two-island honeymoon. Both are high-end and low-key, and the ferry between them is short enough to make the combination easy without being rushed.

Best time Dec – Apr
Starting from from ~$900/night
Pace Relaxed, food-led, unhurried

Properties I recommend

Four Seasons Anguilla Aurora Anguilla Resort & Golf Club Malliouhana Belmond Cap Juluca
JB's take

"Anguilla is the one I recommend most often when a couple says they want 'the best beaches' but also care about eating well. The combination is unusual, and it delivers."

St. Barths · Caribbean

Seclusion & Romance Culture & Food

St. Barths

Small, French, and relentlessly polished

St. Barths is small enough to drive around in about 45 minutes, which means no part of it is far from any other. The beaches are excellent. Saline and Colombier are the ones worth seeking out, both quiet and requiring a short walk. The restaurants are genuinely good, not resort-good. The clientele tends toward private yachts and repeat visitors who know exactly what they want and come back for it every year.

Honeymoon fit

High price point, but the experience is genuinely chic, not manufactured luxury. Best for couples who care about food, wine, and quiet over activities. Villa rentals are often the better move here over hotels: many come with a housekeeper and a Jeep, and the privacy is hard to replicate in a resort. Book early: inventory is limited and demand over Christmas and New Year's peaks well in advance.

Best time Dec – Apr
Starting from from ~$1,400/night
Pace Chic, slow, food-forward

Properties I recommend

Le Barthélemy Eden Rock Hotel Guanahani Villa rentals via WIMCO
JB's take

"St. Barths attracts people who've already done the other islands and want something a notch more particular. It's not for everyone. For the right couple, nothing else comes close."

St. Vincent & Mustique · Caribbean

Seclusion & Romance Adventure & Activity

St. Vincent & Mustique

A privately owned island that operates entirely on its own terms

Mustique sits off the southern tip of St. Vincent: a privately owned island home to a small number of villas, a handful of restaurants, and almost no one else. It's not a resort, it's more of a community, and access comes through villa rental. St. Vincent itself is volcanic and lush, with waterfalls and the Grenadines stretching south toward Grenada, a sailing ground that hasn't been overrun yet.

Honeymoon fit

For couples who want genuine removal from the world. No day-trippers, no cruise ships. Cotton House is the one hotel on Mustique: intimate, unhurried, deeply private. The neighboring Grenadines (Bequia, Canouan) are worth adding for a sailing segment if the budget allows. This is the island for couples who've thought about it carefully and decided they want something genuinely different.

Best time Jan – Apr
Starting from from ~$400/night
Pace Fully private, sailing optional

Properties I recommend

Cotton House (Mustique) Palm Island Carenage Bay (Canouan) Sandals St. Vincent
JB's take

"Mustique is mostly known by people who've been. There's no marketing budget. The island doesn't need one. When couples ask me for something truly off the radar, this is usually where I start."

Curaçao · Caribbean

Culture & Food Adventure & Activity

Curaçao

Year-round weather, world-class diving, and a genuinely good food city

Curaçao sits below the hurricane belt, which means its weather is consistent year-round, and that single fact changes how you plan a trip. The main town, Willemstad, is colorful and walkable, with Dutch colonial architecture along the waterfront and a food scene that doesn't require you to eat at your resort. The diving is world-class: walls, wrecks, and water clarity that rivals anywhere in the Caribbean, and most of it accessible directly from shore.

Honeymoon fit

Best for couples where at least one person dives, or where "relaxed Caribbean with real texture" is the brief rather than "maximum beach." The culture and architecture of Willemstad will surprise people who arrive expecting nothing but sand. It pairs naturally with Aruba or Bonaire for the full ABC island run: three distinct islands, one trip, no repetition.

Best time Year-round (outside hurricane belt)
Starting from from ~$700/night
Pace Culture + diving + beach

Properties I recommend

Baoase Luxury Resort Santa Barbara Beach & Golf Resort Kura Hulanda Lodge
JB's take

"I've been to Curaçao and it caught me off guard. I wasn't expecting Willemstad to be that good. It's the Caribbean for couples who want more than a beach week."
